the pool

Pedestrians crossing the square in front of the old Frankfurt Ostbahnhof (eastern railway station) in the hot sommer months could hear the noise of a crowded public swimming pool. Cheerful noises of children shouting and water splashing resounded from the roof of the windowless, "pool-like" brick building. Looking up, they could catch a glimpse of pool ladders and life preservers on the roof of the building. Inside the station, the smell of chlorine was in the air.

The work was produced following an invitation of auswärts kunstraum Frankfurt and was curated by Christian Kaufman und Sonja Müller.
